In the last decade the number of torn ACLs has sky-rocketed in nearly every physical sport. Surprisingly, recent studies show that female athletes can be 6-10 times more likely to tear the ACL than male athletes. A reported major contributor to the evelated injury levels are athletes using incorrectly developed mechanics when slowing down, and when landing from jumps. Combine improperly developed mechanics with the slightest strength imbalance in the legs, and you’ll have the perfect scenario for an ACL injury. One proven way to prevent this is with a properly designed strength and speed program; scientific studies have shown that athletes who partake in a professionally planned speed and strength training program are 88% less likely to injure the ACL.
